sof-audio-pci 0000:00:1f.3: error: no reply expected, received 0x0

Hello! Thank you in advance for your assistance.

I'm using a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon (gen 7). I have followed the steps on the Wiki to get 4-channel audio and microphone working. I am using sof-firmware. When I boot, I'm getting the following printed to the console immediately prior to the login prompt:

sof-audio-pci 0000:00:1f.3: error: no reply expected, received 0x0

This is not necessarily a problem because it seems that my speakers and microphone are working correctly, but it is irritating because I don't want to see an ugly error message every time I login. I would like to explore this issue, but I am new to this relationship among kernel/firmware/audio card/driver, etc., and I'm having difficulty parsing the information I've been able to find regarding this laptop and the SOF project.

Here is the output of

dmesg | grep sof-audio-pci

My question: is this error message presenting me with a problem that needs attention, or if not, can I hide this message but allow other potentially important error messages to come through?

Thank you!

Hi, exact same device and error, same question.

What if you use the module parameter snd_hda_intel.dmic_detect=0 ?

Unfortunately, this doesn't resolve the issue. I've already blacklisted snd_hda_intel per the instructions here because sof-hda-dsp is not available in alsamixer otherwise.

I have found this thread, which has posts as recent as March 12, 2020 and is extremely relevant to this issue. There is no advice about how to hide/ignore this particular message. I may end up asking about it with the folks at the SOF project.

hi, have you solved this problem? My Dell G3 3590 has the same problem with you. The audio device works fine, but the following dmesg errors appear repeatedly.

sof-audio-pci 0000:00:1f.3: error: no reply expected, received 0x0
sof-audio-pci 0000:00:1f.3: firmware boot complete
