Fresh pacman -Syu, plymouth now restarts once an hour, crashing me

Been using Arch on this system for a long while, a system update yesterday started crashing me almost immediately an causing horrible lag in everything.

I found plymouthd running at 100% on a core, and no idea why as it should terminate after DM is invoked.  In my case, using KDE/SDDM to login.  I found doing killall -9 plymouthd works and makes my system usable again.  Until the zombie rises from the grave, restarts, and crashes me again every few hour or less.

I have no idea what is invoking plymouth to run while in the DE, but it absolutely screws the system over, causing hard lock and having to reboot my laptop each time.  Not cool, my last uptime on this thing was over 6 months...

Why would plymouth restart itself constantly from systemd?  I'm considering killing it entirely, but I do use it for my encryption key mostly with a pretty screen, and would hate to lose it because of a simple bug.  I've seen others report this, but really no resolution I've found.

Here's what I see every now and then when it restarts below -  not sure how to keep this from occurring while still booting normally with it.

Thanks in advance!
