[Xfce] Some symbol icons missing -- arrows, home symbol...

Greetings.

Some icons are mysteriously missing from my machine.
The first place I noticed they were missing from is Thunar:

The missing icons are (left to right): back, forward, 'up' (parent directory), and home (go to home directory). (They should be to the left of the bar containing the name of the current directory.) Of these the last is the strangest because one would imagine that there is nothing wrong with the home icon since a perfectly good home icon appears in the sidebar below (visible in screenshot).
While taking the screenshot for this post I discovered arrow icons are also missing from other apps -- namely, the xfce4-screenshooter:

There should be up and down arrow icons in the selection dialog for how many seconds until the screenshot is taken.
My first thought was that there was a problem with the icon theme, so I tried different icon themes. Nope. I tried installing some "base" icon themes, like Gnome (all of the gnome-icon-theme packages) and I checked that Hicolor was installed (it is). Still no change. Then I tried changing GTK theme -- nope. (It isn't the Xfwm4 theme either.)

Any idea?

Thanks for the suggestion, but I doubt it. The Pango issue appears to be with text -- specifically text from bitmap fonts in old font formats -- but (until, by coincidence, today) I did not use any bitmap fonts.

Hi,
I have same issues : arrows preview, next and up are replaced by a strange icon who looks like a folder.
Did you solve your problem ?

Unfortunately I never did solve the problem, but good luck in finding a solution. I wonder if it may be a bug in GTK.

Hi C-Ren,

In my case, this bug comes from the Paper icon theme : if I change icon theme, icons come back.

Hi,
I had the same issue with Thunar after updating. Re-installing the paper icon theme from the AUR solved the issue.

Hi all,

It's interesting that you seem to be experiencing this as a bug in the Paper icon theme specifically. I definitely reinstalled icon themes, installed new icon themes and changed icon theme and the problem persisted. I can't know if reinstalling Paper would have fixed the problem now because I have wiped my storage drive since I opened this forum thread. Thanks for your suggestions regardless, of course.

If this means that you can't/won't do any more troubleshooting, you should mark your thread as [unresolveable], or even better: report the thread to the moderators to close it.
