Hi !
Sorry for my bad English
Always when I unplug my RJ45 internet connection cable of my Lan card, the whole system slows down. I got a P3 700MHz and 256MB Ram.
My Desktop Environment is Gnome. I don't know where the problem is, but I think it's probably gnome.
Does anybody know this problem?
How can I solve it?
Thank you
benny

You could try and just stop the network deamons as soon as you unplug the cable:
/etc/rc.d/network stop

Thank you very much. This works.
Does your code the same like ifdown on other distros?
Do you know how i can get ifup/ ifdown (in which package)?
best Regards and Thank you

ifconfig eth0 down
does the same as ifdown. Replace eth0 with your network interface. Just type 'ifconfig' to display all available interfaces...

i would guess that something on the system is trying to use the ethernet, over and over and over, leading to slowdowns...

i've never used it, but couldn't he use ifplugd to take care of that.
what goes up must come down

I had the same thought. It would be interesting to see bennym's output of "ps aux"...

After disabling with /etc/rc.d/network stop I doubt it - stopping only eth0 would be better.
