[SOLVED] NVIDIA Xid 56 errors

When I play games such as CS:GO, sometimes my computer just freezes and my journal spits out this:

Mar 29 12:34:29 Kevin-B350MA kernel: NVRM: Xid (PCI:0000:08:00): 56, pid=64268, CMDre 00000001 00000080 00000000 00000005 00000034

And this:

Mar 29 12:34:33 Kevin-B350MA /usr/lib/gdm-x-session[764]: (--) NVIDIA(GPU-0): DFP-1: disconnected
Mar 29 12:34:33 Kevin-B350MA /usr/lib/gdm-x-session[764]: (--) NVIDIA(GPU-0): DFP-1: Internal TMDS

I've tried updating my UEFI BIOS, but to no avail.

Help?

Specs: AMD Ryzen 3 1200 (no integrated graphics), GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, ASUS Prime B350M-A

NVIDIA driver version: 440.64, kernel version: 5.4.27-1-lts

Re: [SOLVED] NVIDIA Xid 56 errors

Display Engine error, either HW or driver error.
Do you overclock the GPU?

Remove GDM from the equation (any DM, since they might add a second X11 server - GDM does) and post a complete system journal for some context.

Re: [SOLVED] NVIDIA Xid 56 errors

No. I did try a few months back but it ended badly so I just gave up (the tool I used was GreenWithEnvy - installed with flatpak IIRC). What would happen was, as soon as I closed the GreenWithEnvy window my screen would be permanently frozen. I probably just lost the silicon lottery.

The only other related thing, is that you need coolbits 8 to overclock IIRC. I currently have coolbits 4, in case I want to temporarily adjust the fan speed.

In a previous post here that nobody replied to, I also reported Xid 32 and Xid 69 errors with the same symptoms.
Xid 32 points to "invalid or corrupted push buffer stream", caused by a driver error or system memory corruption or a bus error or a thermal issue (which is not true since my GPU has only ever peaked at 60C) or FB corruption (no clue what that is).
Related is that my RAM is overclocked from 2400 MHz CAS-16-16-16-39 to 2933 MHz CAS-14-14-14-22.
Xid 69 points to "graphics engine class error", caused by the same things that cause Xid 56 (hardware error or driver error).

Still clueless to any possible fix.

Re: [SOLVED] NVIDIA Xid 56 errors

Obviously downclock the RAM - XID 32 is a DMA error: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Direct_memory_access
