Despite all precautions, after cleaning the internal keyboard of my laptop (I took it out to clean the bay itself), neither trackpoint nor the touchpad button work anymore. Not sure if this is the right place to ask. Do you have any recommendations on how I could further investigate this, if only the keyboard has a defect (could order a new one) or if the defect is somewhere else? There is no visible damage and I cleaned the contacts again without success.

Is this a lenovo (as suggested by "trackpoint")? If so, you do know that the trackpoint/trackpad have their own ribbon connector apart from the keyboard's, right?

Yes, a Thinkpad T Series laptop. I reconnected both ribbons, keyboard works fine, touchpad buttons don't. What I don't know is if the touchpad itself uses the same connector as its buttons and the trackpoint.
