[SOLVED]: Front mic not working

Good afternoon,

I am trying to use the front mic on my PC. I connected a phone headset (3,5 mm jack) to the front mic (which is connected to the motherboard). The mic has been verified on a different PC and on a phone. I tried to check the controls on the wiki at https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pu … leshooting. I checked the volumes on alsamixer. The microphone is recognized and the volume set, still... when I try to use it, it will only record noise. I notice that there is a faint recording of my voice (I tested through Skype and also through arecord).

output of pacmd list-sources is as follows:

I noticed the "base volume" being very low, but I have not been able to change it.

pacmd set-source-volume alsa_input.pci-0000_28_00.4.analog-stereo 65536

works on the "volume: front-left: 65536 / 100% / 0,00 dB,   front-right: 65536 / 100% / 0,00 dB" values.

I tried to use the mic from the rear input on my desktop and the problem is the same.

I am now using a USB mic on a webcam, which works, but is not very good.

What can I try to do?

Re: [SOLVED]: Front mic not working

I checked on PAVUCONTROL and the problem is quite the same even after raising the volume to 153 percent. What changed is the right / left volume, but the base volume is unchanged. Now, just to check, I tried to connect a pair of speakers to the line out connection. The sound is terribly low even with volume raised to the max both in alsamixer and in pavucontrol. If I connect the same speakers via an USB adapter, they work perfectly.

Now, strangely, the front line out connected to headphones works well.

Re: [SOLVED]: Front mic not working

It turned out to be a hardware problem. Front mic is working with a PC headphone, won't work with cell phone headphone which work with another desktop (inserted in mic connector).
