Gnome shell 3.36 flickering

Since the last time I upgraded packages, including gnome-shell to 3.36.0-1, gnome-shell flickers in the overview. See a short (10 s) example video here: https://youtu.be/J3_W3Pjfly8

Am I alone in this? If not, has anyone found a solution to this incredibly annoying behavior? Or does someone more knowledgable than me know how to find the root cause and maybe help me find the solution?

I'm running on Xorg, not wayland.

It seems that overlay effects are affected too - tooltips flicker as well as guake does.

Mine is not flickering. But I only get 1/4 of the screen with Gnome on Xorg. The mouse cursor also has significant delays.

Xorg backend is getting less love than Wayland one and it will be worth in the future.

Anything forbiding a migration to Wayland ?

With all due respect, "use something else" is not a fix in my view. I didn't notice any statement that gnome shell 3.36 is not supposed to work with xorg. If there is something like that and I just missed it then I apologize and migration to wayland is the way to go. But the current state is broken (at least for me, determinig that is a part of the process of fixing) and I'd like it was not broken. That is the reason this thread exists, I'm asking for a help with the fix since I'm currently not able to do it on my own.

Regarding the migration to wayland, back then when I was setting my system up there was something forbiding but I can't remember what exactly it was. I'd like to migrate to wayland eventually but not now. This thread is about fixing current issue, not migration to wayland.

Update: windows that are not maximized flicker as well most of the time. Also, the weird behavior is present at the GDM login screen (see here, 33 s: https://youtu.be/bsw7I27oQIw) so it probably is not (only) gnome-shell related. However, I see that GDM is still 3.34.1 so that might be the issue... or not?

With some of the recent updates, the problem went away. I have no idea which update was it and have zero desire to find it out (but I suspect gnome 3.36.1). I'm not sure whether to mark the thread as solved as there is no actual solution here.
