I'm an old experienced Arch user that's been using OpenBSD and FreeBSD for the last 10 years. But today I did a clean install of Arch, and it's great to be back.
But I've noticed that the default terminal fonts, and others like Inconsolata, are unreadably pixelated in some window managers but not others.
Ratpoison (my favorite) = pixelated
I3 = pixelated
dwm = good
Gnome = good
xfce4 = good
But even in Ratpoison, if I go to Firefox or LibreOffice, the fonts look great. Only in xterm and urxvt are they blocky and unreadable.
Empty .Xresources. Haven't tweaked anything. Just default installation of the basics.
Any suggestions where I would even start to debug something like this? I'm sorry I don't understand how or why some WM would work and others not.
Thank you.

You're not alone.
I run xmonad wiith urxvt and have exactly the same issue after an upgrade in the last 48 hours.
I haven't had a chance to review the packages that were upgraded, but it's surely something there.

If you open a terminal from another terminal does it return any errors?
And this is one of the rare occasions for which a (thumbnail link to a) screenshot of text would be appropriate :-)

Thanks for that.
I downgraded to inconsolata 2.0.0.1-3 and it all looks good again.
