First look at Archie 0.6

First look at Archie 0.6:
200608282029jh0.th.png
I'd really like some feedback on the look of Archie.  Ziggy was developing the look a while back but due to some tech diffs I had to change it a bit.  Any comments here, please!

I think it looks nice - but please, if possible, disable font shadows in window deco

Re: First look at Archie 0.6

Looks great.

The only issue I can spot is that there seems to be some duplication - there are two app toolbars that are showing the same thing.

Re: First look at Archie 0.6

Looks very nice... as arooaroo said though, the top panel is redundant. Also, the shadowed fonts in foreground window decorations don't look so great.

(Actually, I think I'd recommend different window borders... OpusOS maybe. Sorry if I seem overcritical...)

Re: First look at Archie 0.6

what happened to shadowhand's awesome archie wallpapers? that one there is far too generic and boring.

and ill agree on everything gullible said too, redundant panel and shadowed fonts.

Btw, I reckon the crystal icons are getting old.... maybe consider giving Tango a shot?

and... is there a new test release I can give a shot somewhere?

Bugger - I was afraid someone was going to say all of those.
· The shadows can't be fixed - we'll have to change the theme if it is that bad.
· I'm sure there was a good reason for the dup taskbar...dunno what now.
· I'd like to try another icon theme.
· Finally, the wallpaper.  Shadowhand's Archie gensplash theme is awesome, I dunno why we didn't go down that road.

Not yet.  This would have been it if people hadn't said what I knew they would!

This is a xfwm theme, right? In the themerc file, just put:

title_shadow_active=false
title_shadow_inactive=false

I am a gated community.

I don't have a clue about xfwm themes but it doesn't seem to me that there is a shadow in the title of the inactive window. I don't think

is needed here.

Haven't been here in a while. Still rocking Arch. smile

I can see why you arent using the wallpapers -- they've still got 0.5 on them.
http://www.wgilk.com/design/opensource/archie/

However, shadowhand was good enough to up the originals and fonts, so there's some 0.6 ones here:
http://iphitus.loudas.com/arch/archiegfx/

If you'd like, check them over with shadowhand before using them, though there shouldnt be a problem.

As for icons, maybe look at Etiquette. http://xfce-look.org/content/show.php?content=23320
There doesnt seem to be a full Tango theme for xfce yet.

Re: First look at Archie 0.6

I think it would be better to just use a different XFWM theme... Clearbox looks good, especially the flat variant.

Re: First look at Archie 0.6

Hmmm...I've not had much like.  I copied the Archie UI configs to a new user but they don't produce the same results.  There is now only one taskbar but it is not associated with the panel, which is what I would prefer, but I can't seem to see how to do that.

On another note the XFCE theme we were using before, which went with the window decorations, has now fixed itself.

Re: First look at Archie 0.6

OK - this is the latest screenie.  This basically captures the original look that Ziggy was aiming for and therefore I am satisfied.  I don't want to spend time altering the look and feel as, technically, the Archie ISOs are Ziggy's baby and the decisions should be left to him.  I hope to take some of this feedback, and from the Openbox thread, into the next AEGIS release.

Re: First look at Archie 0.6

looks good but... what happened to the wallpapers? like i said before, that grass is just boringly generic and doesnt fit with the whole theme.

It's just a bit old school - this wallpaper has, at least, never been released.  Though thanks to Iph for revamping those smile

Re: First look at Archie 0.6

nice work dtw smile

im still very busy (new apartment, wedding plans, etc... u know the story...) and although got internet connection, havnt got a chance to hook all the computers and the router... will do so soon.

the preview looks very cool, no idea why the we have duplicate taskbars - maybe an error on my part. i think we can/should hack the theme (remove caption shadow, maybe change coloring scheme, etc) and i'll try find the latest and great looking wallpaper shadowhand made for Archie (i have several variations he made, we can pick one...).

Sorry for not being able to assist you more, I know you had put tons of work into 0.6... but I believe those efforts would pay off smile

would be nice if some more users would join the community effort for making 0.6 a colaborate effort of making the Arch-Live-Version a living example of the Arch community... only time would tell wink
