Weird audio signal when using audio jack - ALSA

Hi everyone,

I've installed arch linux on my laptop, and almost everything is going fine, except for the sound.

When I plug in a headphone or anything else like a speaker, there is a weird audio coming out of the device, like a pulsing song fading (I've recorded it, here. When I play any audio (I tried with firefox and spotify) there is nothing but this weird audio signal.
However, when I use the internal speaker of my laptop, the audio is great. I have this issue only using audio devices connected by jack.
I know this is not a hardware failure because I use a dual boot with windows, and the audio is fine on it.
I know that my headphone is detected because with the tool pavucontrol I can see that the headphone is detected, and when I mute the output this weird audio signal disappear.
So how can I make my audio devices using the jack connector works on my arch linux ? Is there any ALSA configuration I missed about audio jack ?

Thank you very much.

Re: Weird audio signal when using audio jack - ALSA

That's often rather some HW issue. Make sure the jack is actually properly connected, power saving can also have an effect here, do you use some power saving daemon like TLP or powertop or so? If so try to  disable power saving they apply.

If you're sure neither of these are the case post

dmesg | grep snd
aplay -lL
#If using pulse
pacmd list-cards
pacmd list-sinks
pacmd list-sink-inputs

Re: Weird audio signal when using audio jack - ALSA

Hey ! Thank you
Yeah I'm pretty sure the jack is properly connected, I've tried a lot of times and as I said, it works on Windows (and was working when I was using other linux distro or DE), and no I don't have any power saving daemon.

All the outputs are here :

dmesg | grep snd

Re: Weird audio signal when using audio jack - ALSA

So my problem isn't solved yet, but I've noticed something strange.
When my headset isn't plugged in, the internal microphone of my laptop is used, and I can record with it. But I had an idea, so I tried to plug in my headset while recording in audacity.
So, when the headset is plugged in, audacity start to be really slow, and record some strange things. When I unplug my headset, everything is normal again. It seems to be a DC, I don't know why. Maybe the computer send some power to the headset thinking that it is a microphone ? And the power is leaking everywhere ? It doesn't do that on windows so I know this is not a hardware issue, and my headset and my jack connector work pretty well. So maybe there is some configuration to do with ALSA to change that ?
What do you think ?
