Civ 6 weirdness

Hi, I started Steam from the menu. Then I started Civ 6. The game opened and progressed as far as the second 'Starting, please wait' screen. Then it just hangs. The whole system froze, requiring a hard restart. Ok, I thought, I'll start Steam from CLI, so I might get some error message clues. This is what I got: bash: steam: command not found. Naturally, neither steam-native or steam-runtime worked either. How do I troubleshoot effectively? FWIW, this is a two week old install, using XFCE and Nvidia graphics. My machine is a POS but I've had Civ6 running on it on a previous Arch install and on undearly departed Win 7. Are there any launch options that might help? Thanks in advance.

Re: Civ 6 weirdness

Well what kind of steam are you starting if you use the launcher then? Either you don't have steam from the repos or your shells PATH is broken, did you ever manually adjust something there?

Re: Civ 6 weirdness

I just installed Civ 6 to try it - Steam (Runtime) + 64Gb RAM + i9-9900k + 1070Ti + Gnome - it immediately crashes on startup, so maybe a bad game update or something.

UPDATE: I'm able to run the game like this:

cd "~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Sid Meier's Civilization VI" && echo '289070' >steam_appid.txt && ./Civ6Sub
