I have native transparency working with urxvt as described here and I set my background with feh. When I launch urxvt or urxvtd with urxvtc clients, the terminal's background shows the desktop background as expected. If I change the background with feh, the new background image is shown in all open terminals as expected.
However, if I change the display geometry by connecting an external monitor with xrandr and then reset the background with feh, transparency stops working in some areas of the screen. For example, a terminal on the left of one screen will show the desktop background as expected, but if moved far enough to the right on the same screen, the terminal background will turn black.
Plain urxvt terminals opened after connecting the monitor will display the desktop background as expected, but urxvtc clients will not. The urxvtd daemon has to be restarted for the changes to take effect.
It seems that urxvt(d) loads information about the display geometry when it starts and then never refreshes it. I have tried reloading ~/.Xresources with xrdb to no avail. I have also tried setting the "buffered" option to false but that changed nothing.
Does anyone know what the problem is or how to refresh the loaded geometry for the background calculation? I'm using Openbox if that makes any difference.
