This is a remarkably difficult problem to search for. I have a Dell Lattitude e7470 laptop running Arch Linux, using the i915 driver. When there is a monitor plugged in to the HDMI port, I get drawing glitches on the laptop screen. If I move a window around, regions of the screen go black temporarily. This onlu affect the laptop display, and it only occurs when there is an external monitor attached. The external monitor is set up at 1920x1080 resolution (as HDMI-1) and the laptop is set to 1600x900 (as eDP-1). I am at a loss as to what could be causing this...
