but 1 more thing >> iphitus

is there a relationship between getting slow and networking ?
coz my ip was neither set at hosts.conf nor at rc.conf

thanx again

Your IP doesn't have to be set there, it is often recieved automaticly over DHCP. As you didn't say anything of defect network connection, I assume you use DHCP. Your hostname has to be set though.

Yes. Your loopback should be in /etc/hosts, eg:

127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost

and if you have a different hostname, add an additional line for it too.

I'll ask what should have been asked earlier -- qualify slowness -- what is slow? Different slowdowns can be attributed to different things. Do programs take ages to start? Are programs unresponsive in general? Explain with detail.

Re: arch is slow !!

ah, yes good point. The slow down is only in terms of start up speed. Once the applications have loaded up they generally work just as fast as ever.

Re: arch is slow !!

I've started to notice some slowdowns (but cpu monitor doesn't show high CPU usage) after upgrading kdebase-3.5.4-6 form kdebase-3.5.4-4 (nevermind that MMB problem).

I solved it by changing ASpell language from lithuanian to default. I think I solved it, because slowdown occured by touching input boxed, text areas and similar
