Making Canon Pixma iP1980 work

I'm trying to make my printer as specified in the title to work. First I'll give some output that I think is relevant for this problem:

lsusb
lpstat
/usr/lib/cups/filter
/usr/lib/cups/backend
/usr/share/cups/model
/etc/cups/ppd

I'm using this as GUI for managing printer and since my printer is a very old model, there is no driver for it in Linux and it is already discontinued. I still managed to find PPD file for it from here and generate the corresponding filter and using the PPD file from it.

System-config-printer managed to detect the printer (and so does LibreOffice), I can send a print job to it, but the printer doesn't do anything. The printer will eventually revert into an idle state and no pages were printed. Any ideas about what I should do next?

Canon printers usually need some proprietary stuff from canon .

However, https://fswdl.blogspot.com/2016/10/cano … nload.html has a linux driver , cnijfilter-common-3.00-1.tar.gz

AUR has a newer version of that driver[1], if you're very lucky it will work with your model or you can use it as a start for a PKGBUILD to build the older version .

It won't be easy to get this to work on any current linux and it will likely be a lot of work with an unknown chance of success.
You may want to consider giving this printer to someone with a windows 8.1 system ( or setup a windows VM on your machine and print from that ) .

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

(A works at time B)  && (time C > time B ) ≠  (A works at time C)

Unfortunately, I am still unable to make it work. I guess setting up Windows VM or using a Windows system is the only solution for me. Thank you for your response.
