Hi Arch users,
I can't figure out how to control the volume of my USB DAC. The DAC works when I play youtube videos in firefox and I can see it in the list of devices however when I run alsamixer and select the correct card by pressing F6 it only displays one "PCM" device that does not have a slider and it's value is 00. I would expect to see a slider next to that device so I can control the volume allowing me to use the command line to set the volume and eventually automate this using short cuts in qtile which I am using as my window manager.

Are you running pulse? Use pavucontrol.

OK so that GUI works. Awesome. I can change the volume. So I guess I'm using pulse audio moving forward rather than directly using ALSA. Is there any reason why doing this is a bad idea? Does pulseaudio make working with DAC's easier?

If pulse is installed, it will handle everything, which is why alsamixer wouldn't work. Keep using pulse, in almost every scenario, it just works™
