Hi folks,
First post after 2 years of learning ArchLinux. Figure its time and a topic where I could benefit from learning from someone with a bit more expertise. Will keep this concise, but happy of course to post relevant logs.
I have two choices for work, a company laptop and a nasty endpoint lockdown Windows 10 OS+ VPN solution...........or I can dual boot into ArchLinux and make use of the VDS options with all of the bliss nirvana and tools. I've been using Citrix ICAClient (Receiver for Linux) for some time, but have never gotten the Webcam redirection to work. This drove me absolutely mad today and I spent 6 hours trying to get it to work with no success.
System state:
ArchLinux 5.6.8
ICAClient 2004 from AUR
Gstreamer 1.0
Troubleshooting steps:
Successfully enabled AudioInput (microphone now works, but no webcam)
Initially followed old documentation and installed Gstreamer 0.10 but Gstreamer fails creating a V4L2SRC object
Followed new documentation on how to enable Gstreamer1.0 (sym links) and validated that all GStreamer1.0 Webcam functionality works using the hdxcheck.sh utility provided
Modified the All_Regions.ini & wfclient.ini to enable HDXWebCam, set resolution to 320 x 240, enable GST debugging, and webcam debugging
The utility gst_read1.0 -b 20 successfully feeds 20 frames of video at the command line, with only the below error.
(gst_read1.0:4767): GStreamer-WARNING **: 19:24:22.992: free_priv_data: object finalizing but still has 1 parents (object:0x7fd01407e480)Despite gst_read being successful and the countless variations i've tried (including disabling HDX redirection and enabling USB) the webcam is never visible by the Windows 10 virtual desktop. I also don't follow how to investigate further by looking at logs because my brain is melted and the docs refer to rsyslog instead of Archlinux's systemd journal.
The solution in windows is simple. You right click on the Citrix window, go to preferences, and enable the webcam. Same hardware....instantly works. i DETEST Windows but sometimes its maddening the level of detail needed to get simple things to work in Arch. yes I realize this is less of an Arch issue and more of a 'does Citrix provide robust cross platform support'.

I wouldn't know how to get your webcam working through Citrix, but as an alternative I can say that VirtualBox does support webcam pass-through really well, so you could have a Windows guest running on an Arch host. The host would be plugged into the Internet, your guest into your locked down VPN and you can drive Webcam traffic through the VPN over the corporate network that way. I've used this a lot for WebEx conferences with webcams, since there's no WebEx client for Linux (afaik).
