Can't set jack2 I/O to anything else than default

When I set in or out to anythinf else than default, jack2 gives me the following error

JackShmReadWritePtr::~JackShmReadWritePtr - Init not done for -1, skipping unlock

I have read in the Wiki about this error

but the provided fix i.e. setting it to 2, does not work.
