Memory usage w/ hardened-malloc?

Built from git. Mem usage at cold boot (top/free) has doubled using the env variable method across a dozen systemd services and a handful of testing apps. sway and haveged don't play well with hardened-malloc is why I have not stayed with /etc/ld.so.preload. Just trying to get an idea of what you all have experienced with regards to mem usage and whether my experience across two systems is on the right track.
