I have udiskie running with the smart-tray and notify options. It works great from first boot, however, if I suspend (lid close) it seems to get killed when I reopen the lid (the icon is there initially and then vanishes).
If i invoke udiskie from the command line with the same options it will not reappear until I reboot. Using command+shift+r to restart i3 in situ does nothing either.

May be invoke udiskie with the "-t" option and see if that works. That works for me.

That didn't solve it for me - the icon appeared (after I re-invoked from the terminal), but it didn't recognise the SD I put in (no option to mount after right-clicking the icon).
