Vulkan initialize problem with nvidia-390xx drivers

Hi, i have problem to properly setup vulkan drivers for my graphics card (that the lastest working nvidia driver is 390) on Arch. sad

I have installed nvidia-390xx-dksm, nvidia-390xx-utils and vulkan-icd-loader.

vulkaninfo output:

ERROR at /build/vulkan-tools/src/Vulkan-Tools-1.2.140/vulkaninfo/vulkaninfo.h:240:vkEnumerateInstanceExtensionProperties failed with ERROR_INITIALIZATION_FAILED

vkcube output:

vkEnumeratePhysicalDevices reported zero accessible devices.

Do you have a compatible Vulkan installable client driver (ICD) installed?
Please look at the Getting Started guide for additional information.

The output of "ls /usr/share/vulkan/icd.d/" is:

nvidia_icd.json

I have Nvidia GeForce GT 730 and AMD processor.

Thanks in advance for any help. smile

Re: Vulkan initialize problem with nvidia-390xx drivers

The 730 is listed as a legacy card but it is listed as supported by the current nvidia driver 440.82 on https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverR … 9360/en-us
Have you tried the nvidia driver and it failed to work?

Re: Vulkan initialize problem with nvidia-390xx drivers

Yes, tried that before. Versions after 390 are not working with this GPU. It is listed incorrectly on Nvidia site and I must use legacy version.

Re: Vulkan initialize problem with nvidia-390xx drivers

730 is a low-level entry card and you most likely have the OEM rebranded fermi model, thus nvidia-390xx is correct... and no vulkan for you that's only for kepler+ (and pretty bad on the kepler generation anyway so you will want something more recent regardless)

So yeah there are multiple "versions" of 730 two of them are "Kepler" and will work with nvidia and vulkan and one of them is actually of the previous generation and will not.

To confirm, what's your lspci output for the nvidia card?

Re: Vulkan initialize problem with nvidia-390xx drivers

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GF108 [GeForce GT 730] (rev a1)

That GF108 is what identifies this as fermi, so yes, you can't get Vulkan on that. You usually can't buy this card and it's only part of  OEM pre-built offerings. It's a pretty scammy thing to do and I'm not sure how and why this is legal but oems often sell "higher numbered" cards that are actually based on the previous generation. One of my older rigs was similarly affected and had a 630 with the same ramifications.

Yeah, that must be it.
I was convinced that this would be supported sad

Thanks you a lot for your help and explanation big_smile
