It is possible, but I don't remember how - try using "timidity --help" or "man timidity" and look for answers there (I don't have it installed atm)'

If you can't figure it out, you can always convert wave files and stuff to MP3 with "sox".

I think, I can convert .wav files to .mp3 from stereo to mono with Audacity.
