Dracut and microcode [Solved]

Am testing out dracut on laptop and it was painless to setup only looking at output from lsinitrd I noticed

initrd in UEFI: : 58M
========================================================================
Early CPIO image
========================================================================
drwxr-xr-x   3 root     root            0 Jun  7 16:06 .
-rw-r--r--   1 root     root            2 Jun  7 16:06 early_cpio
drwxr-xr-x   3 root     root            0 Jun  7 16:06 kernel
drwxr-xr-x   3 root     root            0 Jun  7 16:06 kernel/x86
drwxr-xr-x   2 root     root            0 Jun  7 16:06 kernel/x86/microcode
-rw-r--r--   1 root     root        30546 Jun  7 16:06 kernel/x86/microcode/AuthenticAMD.bin
-rw-r--r--   1 root     root      3125248 Jun  7 16:06 kernel/x86/microcode/GenuineIntel.bin
========================================================================

This lpatop does not support UEFI so that does not make any sense, but the microcode part is also confusing. Does dracut automatically install/run microcode? Can I remove microcode from /boot? Is there a way to disable AMD simply as my laptop in Intel based?

EDIT ran dracut with -H to reduce image size and it works fine, am going to switch back to mkinitpio for now....

Mod note: Not an installation issue, moving to Apps/DEs

Re: Dracut and microcode [Solved]

Went with dracut -H initramfs-linux.img ... and that seems to work much better. Image size is now 18M instead of 58M. Am getting virtual console warning on boot. (something I will look into) . Some other error,  this does not boot process from completing.

At the moment I do not see any advantage over mkinitcpio....

According to the change announcement more than a year ago, the rationale is that mkinitcpio maintainers do not want to maintain the code.

Re: Dracut and microcode [Solved]

Ok, that explains it, I may switch back to good old mkinitcpio.

 Dependency failed for dracut ask for additional cmdline parameters.
[    3.720862] systemd[1]: dracut-cmdline-ask.service: Job dracut-cmdline-ask.service/start failed with result 'dependency'.

Will mark thread as solved.
