Arch boots to blank grey screen after login

Hey,
I have had a working install for awhile now and i just opened it up to do some work and it booted up. After i typed in my login info, it went to the next screen which was just a grey screen. I cantdo anything on it and i have no idea what happened. Any help is greatly appreciated as i have exams i need the computer for.

I have gone through the boot log and i dont see any issues. I have chrooted into the system and there may be a problem with my files, i dont see all of them. But i dont know what to do.

What should have happened instead?  Do you run X or wayland?  What WM/DE?  Did you log in on a tty or in a display manager?  Can you switch to another tty?

I am using xorg and gnome desktop. I initially wanted to just chroot and run an update on the system but i am having trouble getting connected to the wifi from terminal.

Umm so im not sure what i did but at the login screen i switched from gnome xorg to just gnome using a settings button at the bottom and it worked. I dont know why though.

Ok, so you are login in at a display manager.  I'd assume it's GDM, right?

Wayland sessions work but Xorg is not working.  So post the Xorg log from a failed attempt.

There should be no need for a chroot, just change to another tty as needed.
