Hi everybody,
I bought this sound card but it doesn't work...
I follow this wiki.
The driver of this sound card is ca0106.

So, my module is loaded...
But if I want to set the volume with alsamixer, I can't...
I tried too with alsaconf, and no results... (I tried with a /etc/modprobe.conf cleaned or nor).
And when I play a music, the music plays ! But no sound...
Any ideas ?
Thanks,
Nicolas

I tested with the Live CD Ubuntu, and the result is the same...

What is your MODULES array in rc.conf?
You have two sound cards (built-in AC97 card + SB Audigy 2 SE).
Try
alsamixer -c 1

My module array is :
MODULES=( snd-emu10k1 snd-pcm-oss snd-mixer-oss snd-seq-oss snd-ca0106)
I have one sound card (the other,a build-in AC97', was desactivated in the BIOS)
[root@NicoElro nicolas]# alsamixer -c 1
No mixer elems found
Offline
First, you don't need anything in MODULES which is autodetected. Your can safely empty your MODULES.
Second, why do you have snd_emu10k1? Is it autodetected? IIRC Audigy 2 SE is not supported by snd_emu10k1, only old SB Live! and not cheap versions of Audigy are based on emu10k1 and emu10k2 chips. See ALSA Soundcard Matrix for details.
Third, your mixer on screenshot is muted completely, and this screen does not show usefull controls. Try to unmute and set to some not 0 value Master, PCM and Center (at least).

Okay, I delete all my sound MODULES in /etc/rc.conf
snd_emy10k1 is my old sound card (5.1 Live!)
I can't unmute my mixer... It doesn't work... (I press "M"). The "chip" is empty in my mixer.

You should also check your modprobe.conf. Try to comment all lines.
Simple sound configs (with one sound card, ALSA+OSS only) should work OK without anything in modprobe.conf.
I that doesn't help then try running alsaconf.

My /etc/modprobe.conf is already cleaned... :-/
And always no sound... (the same alsamixer that screenshot)

Hmm... I don't know what else to think.

Okay, it works !
But why my alsamixer is not complete ? (no info for chipset for example). I have less options than my Live! 5.1 in alsamixer. Is it normal ?

I don't know. Maybe it is not fully supported by ALSA. BTW new ALSA 1.0.12 is out (I suppose it will be in our repos soon).

Yes, it is normal that you have less options. SB Live! 5.1 is much better soundcard.
And it has hardware mixer!

There is no harware mixer in Audigy SE ?!?
I can send it...

Have you seen ALSA Soundcard Matrix?
Only old SoundBlaster Live! 5.1, and non-SE Audigy cards (with chips that are supported by emu10k1 driver: emu10k1, emu10k2 and some others) have real hardware mixer.

It's not written in this page if hardware mixing is supported or not.
Must I conclude that emu10k1 driver is much better than ca0106 ?
There are no sound cards ca0106 which has a hardware mixing ?
Offline
See the bottom of the page:
(3) Hardware mixing supported
Only cards marked with (3) support hardware mixing.
So when I sold my old PC one of details that I not sold but left for myself was SoundBlaster Live! 5.1

Okay, thanks you very much
I conclued that ca0106 are not terrible as driver...
Offline
See my ex alsamixer with Live! 5.1
And the new with Audigy SE
There is a big big difference...

Boths screenshots are strange. But it seems that CA106 is even less supported than SigmaTel chip.
BTW, SB Live! 5.1 Dell OEM is not based on EMU10K1 chip and thus it doesn't support hardware mixing.
