VirtualBox and screen resizing

Hi,

Running Windows 10 with an Arch Linux Guest in Virtualbox 6.1.10.

Automatic screen resizing is not working even after installing virtualbox-guest-utils. I know there have been some issues regarding the new graphics controller VMSVGA. However, even after changing that to VBoxVGA or VBoxSVGA, the issue persists.

Could anyone confirm if this (automatic screen resize not working) is still an open issue, or if there is any misconfiguration from my side?

Thanks

Re: VirtualBox and screen resizing

There's (I think) two issues: #1 auto-resize doesn't seem to work with VMSVGA + xf86-video-vmware. It does work on VBoxSVGA, but problem #2 is that the first time you start the guest after changing the setting you have to manually toggle the "Auto-resize Guest Display" menu option off and on after you've run "VBoxClient-all" to make it selectable . There's a problem with the config file that (I think) is set incorrectly when you first start the guest in VMSVGA and toggling the menu option fixes that.

So this sequence worked for me: 1) take a snapshot 2) change to VBoxSVGA 3) start the guest 4) run VBoxClient-all on the guest - this should now enable the "Auto-resize Guest Display" menu 5) turn the menu option OFF and then back ON 6) bounce the guest.

Obviously merge the snapshot again after everything works, or restore from the snapshot if it screwed up your guest.

Re: VirtualBox and screen resizing

VBoxVGA together with virtualbox-guest-utils-6.1.4-6-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst works.

In 6.1.6 6.1.8 6.1.10 the guests are still broken I give up trying and just stick with 6.1.4 guest.
