Kernel configuration for Asus eee pc 1005p

Hey there,

I 've got an old Asus EEE PC which is still running fine, but at times a little slow:

 System Information
	Manufacturer: ASUSTeK Computer INC.
	Product Name: 1005P
	Serial Number: A2OAAS201648
	UUID: f5c8de80-808d-8146-2d2d-e0cb4eb07842
	Wake-up Type: Power Switch
	SKU Number: 1005P
	Family: Eee PC

My questions:
Is it worth compiling the kernel to make the laptop run a little faster ?
If so, are the any tutorials / docs out there for a proper kernel configuration for my system or netbooks in general in Arch Linux ?

Thanks in advance

I bet those times when it runs slow are GUI related. Is that the case?

True, usually I'm running Xfce but I also installed / run plain Openbox which helps a lot of course.

I hoped with a custom compiled kernel tailored for the Intel Atom CPU I could improve the performance a little.

IMHO. Instead, try to use 'linux-zen' precompiled kernel.
I have Asus-X201e myself and this kernel works pretty fine for me.
