Anormal cpu usage with kernel 2.6.17

Hi,

After upgrading my kernel, i noticed a strange cpu usage.

Outpout of top :

top - 13:34:40 up 34 min, 3 users, load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.01
Tasks: 85 total, 1 running, 83 sleeping, 1 stopped, 0 zombie
Cpu(s): 0.0%us, 0.3%sy, 0.0%ni, 87.7%id, 0.0%wa, 0.3%hi, 11.6%si, 0.0%st

why 11.6 %si, i nerver see that before the last upgrade.

Thanks for your help.

Hey,

I also have this problem, or at least a similar problem. Do you use the official NVIDIA drivers?

I posted a bug report over a month ago... no progress as of yet.

Does this make any noticeable difference to your PC's performance?

Just curious. smile

No , i did nit see any difference.

There is the same behaviour with or without nvidia driver.

For me, yes. As I said in the bug report, my computer is very laggy when the problem exists. I can't stand using it.

At the moment, I am using custom compiled versions of the 2.6.16 kernel (2.6.16.27, will update to .28 today) and the latest NVIDIA drivers. With this configuration, everything is fine.

There is the same behaviour with or without nvidia driver.

Bummer. sad I guess our problems are different. I experience the slowdown only when using X with the NVIDIA drivers. When X is not running, or I am using the "nv" driver, the problem does not occur.
