[SOLVED] Abysmal youtube performance in Firefox

Title says it all. Cant fullscreen YT above 480P without chugging, video/audio desync, and overall system unresponsiveness.

General info:
Freshly installed arch system on the linux-zen kernel
GPU is a Nvidia 1050ti running nouveau/mesa for drivers
CPU is a Ryzen 3950x
32gb of ram, although usage has yet to crack 3gb
DE is KDE plasma on X11
Running dual monitors

I noticed similar slowdown when going into Plasma's logout screen, although only now do i remember this issue.
There is also a second GPU in place for VFIO purposes, but none of that has been set up yet.

Suggestions?

Switch to the proprietary nvidia driver instead of nouveau.

No, it didn't "fix" anything. It just shifted the brokeness one space to the right. - jasonwryan

Well, that fixed the poor video performance. Unfortunately now kde is completely messed up. Probably gonna reinstall and build up off the nvidia drivers so this doesnt happen again. Thanks for your help. smile

Re: [SOLVED] Abysmal youtube performance in Firefox

Don't reinstall, what can happen here is that KDE has to compile and store new shaders due to the changed graphics driver and the response to that might take longer, by effect KDE/KWin surmises OpenGL must be broken and disables compositing, you can usually just reenable that after this initial failure in

kcmshell5 kwincompositing

(you can also find that in System Settings fwiw, but posting/using that command is quicker)
