I recently updated my system and all the sound playback sounds like very low pitched and slow. For youtube video for example, the video will play at an extremely slow speed with slow sound. When I change the default sink to different sink (i.e., laptop speaker) everything sounds fine. So, I concluded that something from the system update is messing with the Thinkpad Ultra Dock (40AJ).
I get the same problem using mplayer. Error message I get is "Audio device got stuck!"
I am using pulseaudio btw, and I tried removing pulseaudio and playing a sample file but I wasn't successful....
Every output from pulseaudio command gives me the normal output: detecting all the sound devices in the laptop and the Thinkpad Ultra Dock (40AJ) as Thinkpad Dock USB Audio.
So, today I wiped the entire system and freshly installed arch linux, and... I still get the same sound problem.
Is anyone having the same problem? Help please?

I have the exact same problem after updating my system. Even using linux-lts doesn't solve the problem.

New kernel updates have some changes related to audio component. Just downgrade to previous working versions, both linux and linux-lts.
Offline
I downgraded alsa* to 1.2.2 but this doesn't solve the issue.
But it seems like the kernel update could be the issue. This patch was accepted for 5.4.49: https://lkml.org/lkml/2020/6/23/2349. Unfortunately I can't reboot right now.

Oh no. So, current kernel has this issue for any USB sound devices?

Downgraded linux to 5.6.14 and USB audio is back to normal

The next kernel/the one in testing should fix this.

Yeah... but like I mentioned above, I did the fresh installation.... There is a way to downgrade the kernel from this?

The kernel will likely hit stable soon, as for downgrading you could: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Arch_Linux_Archive though I'd say the better approach here if you need to have this NOW would be enabling testing, grabbing the kernel, disabling testing

Okay. Thank you. I think I'll just wait for the new kernel.

I installed linux-lts 5.4.50 from testing which solves the issue for me.
Offline
Yep. 5.7.7 kernel fixed the issue.
