This issue started to occur sometime after I installed Life Is Strange 2 via Steam and began playing the game via SteamPlay (which uses a Wine fork for compatibility).
The issue was not apparent immediately after installing the game, and I don't recall doing any kind of system update after installing the game. So I don't know exactly when it started happening.
After I login (lightdm), my secondary display gets turned off, then my background image goes blank, and I see my cursor turn into the spinning circle as though something is loading. Cinnamon is my DE. I cannot launch any applications from the Cinnamon menu or through my application launcher (kupfer), and when I launch applications from the terminal, they appear to launch, but they do not display and are not present in the app panel at the bottom of the screen. When I am in Firefox, I cannot open my bookmark folders. I cannot right-click on the desktop.
Also I occasionally see flickering which almost resembles vertical tearing or a slow refresh rate or something.
I think the cause is either my video card driver, cinnamon, or xorg misbehaving. I have tried reinstalling or rolling back cinnamon, various gtk programs, python, xorg, my video driver, all to no avail.

I downgraded these packages:

cinnamon-desktop 4.6.0-1

cinnamon-settings-daemon 4.6.3-1
and everything started working again. I'm sure this problem will happen again though when I try to upgrade again, so I'd like to have some insight into what is going on.
