Hi all,
I have a dual monitor setup (two 2560x1600 monitors) and I would like to have them share the same workspaces. Is this even possible in i3 ? All I can configure is say for instance workspace 1..4 in monitor 1 and 5...8 in monitor 2 (or something like this). In case it is not possible, what WM would allow me to do this ?
Thanks !

You want the single workspace to span both monitors? Or, you want to mirror the display?

This seems to work ok. I mean now it is true that each workspace spans both monitors and in floating mode and I can drag something from one monitor into the one next to it. That is all good. However, when I open a terminal it goes in fullscreen mode and fills up both monitors. That is a bit annoying. In KDE (using KWin tiling) somehow it still knows the virtual monitor is composed by two individual, albeit smaller, ones and so, when I open a terminal, the full screen terminal will only fill up one of the monitors (half of the virtual display). Do you know how to mimic this effect in i3 or any other WM ?

I don't use i3, but as a tiling window manager, surely the default behaviour is to fill the workspace? What happens if you open a term in floating mode?

This is WM specific, in your case i3. i3 has excellent documentation: https://i3wm.org/docs/

Maybe open the terminal emulator with —geometry flag if it’s supported, otherwise as stated you can define a rule for the terminal emulator, xprop will help ( assuming your using xorg )
