[Solved] SDDM "Lags"

When SDDM first starts, I get a cursor on a black screen. After about 2 minutes said cursor disappears for a few seconds and then SDDM successfully starts with cursor. I'm not sure what's the cause for this delay and it's a feature of both LightDM and SDDM (GDM complains about missing dependencies and was just installed for testing purposes).

I haven't always had this problem. I think it started happening in June, but I include logs going back to April for thoroughness (not because I don't know how to clear them - though, I do need to learn how to do that).

Re: [Solved] SDDM "Lags"

A few crashes here, which graphics adapter? Look at the coredumps and maybe post them.

Symptom-wise this sounds like either too early start or entropy issues. Does it start faster if you press buttons during the blackscreen? See https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ke … _KMS_start and/or add random.trust_cpu=on to your kernel parameters (or install and enable haveged if your cpu doesn't support it (

lscpu | grep rdrand

gives you no output) or if you don't trust the cpu

Here are the coredumps: [https://gist.github.com/WindfallProphet … 9988cd8700](https://gist.github.com/WindfallProphet … 9988cd8700).

I'm using an RX 570 (amdgpu) as my primary GPU, but I have an RTX 2070 for gaming/VFIO.

Buttons don't seem to speed the startup, but I don't think I've pressed many aside from Alt-Sysrq codes and Ctrl-Alt-Delete. I'll try the kernel parameters and let you know.

Edit: I tried setting the kernel parameters with no speedup. I had amdgpu setup form Early KMS start and removing it had no effect.

Re: [Solved] SDDM "Lags"

After disabling systemd-swap.service, this issue seems to have resolved itself. I guess the delay had more to do with background jobs than SDDM itself.

Re: [Solved] SDDM "Lags"

I had this problem for the past month!  Disabling swap has seemed to fix it, thanks!
