ffmpeg 2:4.3.1-1 upgrade causes issue with vlc 3.0.11-2

A recent upgrade of ffmpeg from 2:4.2.3-2 to 2:4.3.1-1 caused a problem with vlc 3.0.11-2; I am running up to date

linux hostname 5.7.12-arch1-1 #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri, 31 Jul 2020 17:38:22 +0000 x86_64 GNU/Linux

the problem occurs when I am using vlc to display dvb television. For some specific channels I no longer get any video. So for BBC ONE I see perfectly good video, but for London Live I have no video. Inspection of the codecs for London Live doesn't change when ffmpeg is updated, but the video disappears. I assume this must be a change in ffmpeg as it seems to occur only when that package is changed.

I have little idea what parts/functions of ffmpeg are being used by vlc, but given that the dvb transports seem to be mpeg-1/2 Video (mpgv) I guess it must be related to the video display.

Any idea how to proceed with debugging/fixing this kind of problem?
