Lightdm cannot switch user after systemd-related upgrades

After upgrading the following packages

systemd-libs (245.7-1 -> 246-1)
systemd (245.7-1 -> 246-1)
lib32-systemd (245.7-1 -> 246-1)
systemd-sysvcompat (245.7-1 -> 246-1)

I can't switch to another user via lightdm-gtk-greeter. (I didn't restart my machine after the upgrades.)

A message appears:

Unable to contact settings server
Could not connect: connection refused.

Downgrading works, but I would like to know which package is causing the issue.

I think there are various services (not necessarily systemd specific) that need to be restarted when upgrading.

Install needrestart, then upgrade systemd again, then run needrestart (as root/with sudo), and take a look at the results.

If you're able, it doesn't hurt to do a reboot on systemd upgrades.
