Picom shadows and suckless dwm status bar

So I'm using dwm patched with hide-vacant-tags and fullgaps. I wanted to have shadows so I configured the shadows settings in the picom config but the shadows only appear in the windows I also wanted to have a shadow below the status bar like I have seen many people have. Is there something that I'm missing for picom to draw the shadows below the status bar?
