Hi everyone,
i tried to install archlinux on my macbook pro mid 2015. During boot the arch was freeze. I needed add the nomodeset option to be able to continue with the installation. I then completed the installation. now i was going to install xorg and a graphical environment (openbox in this case). but when I try to run startx or openbox-session directly Xorg gives me an error by returning this log

i have already installed everything: xf86-video-intel mesa-libgl libva-intel-driver libva, but the same error keeps getting. I thought it might be due to the nomodeset. It could be? however even after installing these packages, if I remove nomodeset option I get an initial freeze. I can't figure out how to fix the problem..
thank you all

Yes, xorg-xinit installed..
I've installed arch following this guide and this
I would say quite classic installation,I followed the guide until rebooting after installation, then since I wanted to install openbox I saw the official guide on the site of arch
Offline
What happens when you do this as a standard user startx /usr/bin/openbox (check if the name is openbox I do not know I use i3)
I also suggest to install it by following wiki form start because the installing process can change time to time that guide is three years old.
For example the guide says # pacstrap /mnt base base-dev
Arch wiki says # pacstrap /mnt base linux linux-firmware
so there can be more differences.
When I was installing Arch on MacBook Air I followed Arch wiki only. I did not have problems to install it one just needs to be careful and read and understand what those commands mean and what one needs.

I noticed this line => intel: waited 2020 ms for i915.ko driver to load
looking around it seems i have to recompile the kenel by adding support for i915.ko is that the problem?

I would try to install linux-lts in my eyes no need to use latest kernel for an old HW.

Linux-lts will be supported for years till 2025 I do not know why 5.7 does not work and 5.4 works I am not a geek just user.

There seems to be a general issue with kernel 5.7 and MacBook. Using "linux" package kernel 5.6.14 is the latest that works for me. No luck with 5.7 until now. Also see https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=257163 Maybe 5.8 might work again. Who knows ;-)
