solaar - app doesn't appear in system tray. appears as a normal app

Running the latest arch gnome DE.  Solaar is supposed to run in the system tray and it runs as a normal app.  I tried a few of the gnome addons that enable the legacy Gnome tray but it doesn't make a difference.  Running it from the command line, it's the same thing regardless which arguments used.

I don't use Gnome but in my KDE I have an option in my System Tray to show/hide solaar, but that choice is only visible if Solaar itself is run first.
Is solaar for you running on startup? If not perhaps if you have it enabled on startup it will automatically sit in your System Tray.

Yeah, I have it running at startup and it makes a normal app icon on the menu bar rather than going to the system tray.

And it doesn't show anything in the System Tray WHILE running? Sorry couldn't be more help. The behaviour seems OK with KDE.

Yeah,  I never get a system tray icon from it when it is running, just the normal app icon on the taskbar.  Quite strange.
