Bluetooth headsets are noisy

Hello,

I have a bluetooth headset (Bose QC35) that works fine on one Arch Linux laptop, but there is an issue if I use it on my desktop: If I play sound, there is a constant noise in the headphones, independent of the sound volume. It does not appear if I use my Laptop.
And yes, I'm using A2DP.

Re: Bluetooth headsets are noisy

We assume that the desktop is running Arch Linux, and is the same kernel and desktop environment.  Can you verify that?

Are the Bluetooth subsystems identical?

Both run Arch Linux, gnome and the newest kernel (but the problem is not new, I had the same issue with older kernels).

What do you mean with Bluetooth subsystem? bluez is installed on both machines.

What bluetooth chipset are you using on each machine?  Post the output of lspci and of lsusb on each?

Re: Bluetooth headsets are noisy

So, the "Good" one is an Intel USB device, and the "Bad" one is a Cambridge Silicon Radio, Ltd Bluetooth Dongle (HCI mode) device.

Are these internal or external?  I get the impression the laptop is internal, but the desktop is external.  If so, you might try the Cambridge Silicon Radio dongle on the laptop and see if the problem follows it.

Your impression is right. I took the externel BT adapter from the desktop and plugged it in the laptop. The problem did not appear on the laptop. I then again plugged the external adapter in my desktop and re-paired it. The problem did not reappear on my desktop. I have absolutely no idea why.

Re: Bluetooth headsets are noisy

USB devices can occasionally have weird power issues that can be resolved by power cycling (as in actually unplugging), have had that happen a few times with usb headphones, never really found out why and it was rare enough that I didn't investigate further.
