Hi I'm just trying out Arch linux on my Laptop after 4 years of using Gentoo and I must say I'm pretty impressed so far. However, I have a problem which is critical to me. I need to use mplayer with the vesa (console driver) so I can get TV output. In Gentoo mplayer comes with the vesa driver however after installing mplayer in Arch the vesa driver is not listed in
mplayer -vo help
where is it? Was it left out of the mplayer package in compliation? Thanks

If you want to adapt your build to your needs (Gentoo feeling, eh? please have a look at the Wiki.

You could also submit a feature request on the bug tracker. Maybe the dev will agree to include it in the next mplayer package.

have you tried installing xf86-video-fbdev and then "mplayer -vo fbdev filename"? that works on tv-out for me.
