Gnome Package Rewrote /etc/profile

I've been working off of Sway for the past year or so. I wanted to have a Xorg native environment (I have a hidpi monitor and xwayland on sway doesn't scale properly) so I installed gnome (I use the Xorg version). I couldn't open any of my snapcraft applications afterwords. I look at /etc/profile and its been completely rewritten.

I pulled gnome from the common package. Just used `sudo pacman -S gnome`. The only other package I installed was an AUR called `evesetup` which shouldn't have touched anything in /etc/.

What is '/etc/path'? It isn't provided by any official repo package, and there's no mention of it on the wiki.

Let's start with the basics:

pacman -Qo /etc/profile

This should be owned by filesystem.

Next, what exactly do you mean by "completely rewritten"? Post the contents.

Third: do you have .pacsave file(s) around for /etc/profile? What makes you sure that it was changed by a package?

It's owned by the filesystem. I'm also getting pulseaudio issues. I can't be sure it was changed directly from the package. I think it was probably one of its dependencies but my installing of `gnome` is the only thing that was changed.

When I type 'echo $PATH' I get '/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/bin'. My '~/.profile' however has 'PATH=$PATH:~/opt/bin' and 'PATH=$PATH:~/go/bin' in there. So bash is somehow skipping over my home .profile. My home directory is the same. My `$HOME` is the same. `whoami` prints my username. Even when I type 'bash' and relaunch it in the home directory it still passes over my '~/.profile'. It's also reconfigured PulseAudio. I had Bluetooth working on Sway. I downloaded 'gnome' and while I can still connect through 'bluetoothctl' and my headphones say 'connected' but PulseAudio doesn't recognise any new output devices except my inbuilt speakers. I've rechecked all the configs too.

Why do you think /etc/profile has been altered when your issue is with ~/.profile? Does `pacman -Qkk filesystem` show:

I think /etc/profile has been altered because I had altered it. I had manually added more paths (e.g. /sbin/). Those paths that I added are no longer there. I always add a comment to any config I edit with my username, date, and time. My snapcraft path is also missing and is not showing up when I type `echo $PATH`.

Please post the full contents of /var/log/pacman.log. See the tip box from pastebin.
Please use code tags for commands and their outputs.

sbin is a symlink to /usr/bin which is in the default path.

~/.profile is only sourced by bash if bash is a login shell, try "bash --login"

What brings us to the next question: did you "Just use[d] `sudo pacman -S gnome`" or did the login process also change (eg. gnome installs GDM) and how do you login to begin with?
What's $PATH on a console login (w/o gnome)?

You added /sbin/ to $PATH? Sounds like this isn't Arch, as /sbin is just a symlink on Arch.

Fixed it by taking the profile of another arch install and running the snap.sh script
