Tearing around windows when I move them or enter the (xfce) terminal

 $ pacman -Qi xfwm4
Name                     : xfwm4
Version                  : 4.14.5-1

Just booted up my laptop.

Whenever I move a window around, it gets a strong tear at its edges. A stronger effect occurs when I click into a terminal, then I see some blue static on the screen.

Unfortunately I honestly have no clue as to what could cause this, the last pacman update I ran was on sunday. Yesterday I had no problems whatsoever.
What can I do to identify the cause for this?

Additional info:

  • I do not have any config file for Intel / Xorg:

    $ ls /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/
    00-keyboard.conf  50-mouse-acceleration.conf
  • I am using VA-API.

However, after a shutdown and a new boot process roughly 1 minute ago, I can report the tearing is gone. No idea why.
