Hey AF.
I have discovered some issues about burning a DVD that I have never seen before.
I have Arch 0.7.2. fully opdatet with kde on - When I try to burn a DVD from a image - with k3b - I experience that it only burns like 15% then it will make a succesfull ending.
I have k3b running with dvd+rw-tools, but running k3bsetup only shows cdrdao, cdrecord and growisofs.. I have tried to install dvdrtools - but cannot install this becaurse of k3b. I cannot run k3bsetup from commandline it' ll give me this error:
k3bsetup
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 key
kdesu: cannot connect to X server :0.0
But running from the kde menu works fine.
It doesn't matter weather its a *.img or *.iso image that I'm trying to burn, each one stops around the 15% and fails. I have mounted the iso image to a directory ond burned it like a DVD projekt - same error!
I have build this machine to be a mythTV machine, so the posbillity about burning out the recording thing is gone?
Do someone have a clue what I should do with this? Or is there something that have been change really much about this point - earliere I just installed k3b and dvdrtools - then dvd+rw-tools and run the setup - that's it - but no more.

But it is a DVD - with 4,7GB space on !
Is it a setting somewhere that I have missed ???

The fact that it stops at ~15% indicates a CD sized burn on the DVD media disc.
This suggests that k3b is at fault for not recognizing the DVD media via growisofs.
Dvdrtools is not compatible with cdrtools so you cannot use that tool.
I would re-install k3b and growisofs to see what happens.
K3b has excellent control for DVD media when it is properly running. It recognizes when the user is trying to run 4GB on a dual layer disc and will not burn a disk less than 6GB iin data size.
Good luck with tour dvd burns!

A second thought...DVD burning is started in ....TOOLS....select one of six options.
Perhaps that will help...noted you have re-installed k3b at least once...

What do you means by that?
Caurse I have looked everywhere for it.
I've tried several times to start k3bsetup using commandline and I get the error.
I can go to kde menu / tools and find k3bsetup there - but in there I only get's 3 options - So problem is somewere else - I' m missing smething - a package or anything. Not quit sure!
My worst though is that I'mmissing some drivers - when I do a lsmod - I can only find dc not DVD - ( and well - in the old installation I have burned a lot of DVD's with that exact machine) so it's not a wrong drive or anything.

The tools that I mentioned is in k3b display after entering k3b in cli. There are 6 options listed therein.
There are five headings there: FILE PROJECT TOOLS SETTINGS HELP
On my machine the display is almost full screen:
WELCOME to K3b- The CD and DVD Kreator
If you have that display, k3b is probably OK
TOOLS produces the following:
CopyCD
Copy DVD
Erase CD-RW
Format DVD+/- RW
Burn CD image
Burn DVD .iso image
Encode video
Disk info
Hope yours is the same.......

Perhaps there is a problem with the cable to your hdc rom which gives incorrect size info to k3b.

can you try it from a command line, to be sure that k3b setup is not the problem:
growisofs -dvd-compat -Z /dev/dvd=image.iso

i have same problem of peque, i've tried now with growisofs but nothing changes
I guess it's not a hardware related problem because we have too much users with the same problem in the same time...

i've finally resolved my problem!!! What did i do? Simply, i've switched to kernel26emission (in aur).
Tell me if it will heal your problems too.

Hi, I can't find this kernel in aur, can you drop link here. Thanks.
