[SOLVED] Dell Latitude e6410 freezes

Hi,

This laptop is a dual boot W10/Arch machine which I've been using for home-working since March because of the covid pandemic, running W10 to connect to my work's VPN and Windows Desktop. I've had no problems when working in W10 over this period.

Using Arch during this time has been rare. Over the last couple months, though, it has had a tendency to freeze with the diagnostic LEDs showing a system board error. The machine becomes completely unresponsive and the only option is to force a shutdown. The problem seems to have become more severe following recent system updates (pacman -Syu) in the last fortnight. Now, it will freeze after a only few minutes with normal use although it can remain stable for a while when idle. Overall, the freezes happen unpredictably but *might* be related to internet use. Browser use is limited to only a few clicks making downloads almost impossible and the machine froze several times during last system update.

A recent boot log, set at error level:

Aug 24 11:19:02 DELL kernel: ACPI BIOS Error (bug): Could not resolve symbol [\_PR.CPU0._PPC], AE_NOT_FOUND (20200528/psargs-330)

As far as I can tell the ACPI errors are not serious and I'm sure the b43.allhwsupport issue has been flagged during boot for some time - certainly before lockdown. (I tried to fix the b43.allhwsupport error by downloading the package from the AUR but the system froze before I could even select it.) Anyway, I don't believe the log is pointing to cause of the freezes.

I have searched online for a solution, using my PC, but none of the (few) solutions I've found have had any effect.

Any help would be really, really appreciated.

Thanks

The laptop works well using a wired connection. This problem looks like it's related to another post at:

Is "fast startup" in windows disabled? (I've had a lot of issues with dual boot systems when I forgot to disable it.)

Sorry for the long delay in responding.
I tried JanErik's suggestion of installing the broadcom-wl driver and my wireless is working perfectly.

I think I did, Raindog, but it made no difference for me.
