[SOLVED] URxvt foreground and background color being overwritten

Hello all,
this looks like a small issue, but I'm not able to find the root cause.

I'm using URXvt with some custom settings and a color-scheme, which I create as follows in my .Xresources:

URxvt.transparent: false
URxvt.geometry: 100x32
URxvt.font: xft:iosevka-term:size=14, xft:LiberationMono:size=10
URxvt.scrollBar: false
URxvt.perl-ext-common: default,matcher,tabbed
URxvt.letterSpace: 1
#include "/home/pharmakon/.urxvt/themes/ayu"

I do an xrdb -merge .Xresources, but what happens after that is that all the colors except foreground and background are changed.

The culprits are xterm*foreground/background that are being set by some other file/setting on boot (the first few lines are from my .Xresources file). Below is the output from xrdb -q:

Now, If I do an xrdb -remove and again xrdb -merge .Xresources, the colors are as expected, but only until the next boot.

How can I prevent xterm*foreground and xterm*background from overwriting my settings?

How are you starting X?  If you use xinit/startx, please post your xinitrc.  If you use a DM, please post the equivalent script, config, or xsession files.

And what kind of session do you use?

Also the xrdb dump somehow misses your other urxvt settings and it's a bit weird that xterm specific entries would affect urxvt (unless you explicitly alter its class)

Assuming you posted only a random excerpt of the xrdb dump, please post the entire thing, before and after fixing the situation and also the contents of "/home/pharmakon/.urxvt/themes/ayu"
Also elaborate on your urxvt setup and why xterm variables could apply (eg. if you call urxvt w/ a class parameter)

looks far more culprit.

The cause is porbably KDE/plasma that applies it's color scheme on the rdb.

I'd specialise the urxvt values like

URxvt*foreground     : #0f1419
URxvt*background     : #e6e1cf
URxvt*cursorColor    : #f29718
…

to keep the KDE palette elsewhere.

Yes, if I just change the theme file itself so that it says URxvt*foreground/background etc. it works, but the downside is that I'll have to do that for other themes as well in case I decide to change my URxvt theme in the future.
But it's a solution in any case, and most likely the safest.
