[SOLVED] HD noise or something else?

Hi guys,
it's about a couple of days that my desktop PC started to emit a strange continuous noise like HD R/W activity.
I do not think it comes from HD because I unmounted the three HD one by one and I used itop to monitor the activity on the fourth one without finding any abnormal activity (furthermore my main HD is SSD, and it should not make any noise).

Nevertheless the noise continued.
It mostly happens when CPU & RAM are heavy loaded by several contemporaneous task.
I checked the three fans one by one but they seems not to be the cause.

Any idea?

thanks

Re: [SOLVED] HD noise or something else?

I also guess the problem is a type of coil-whine, same as ewaller is guessing.

My current motherboard can make noticeable noise under load. It's coming from parts around the CPU socket area, so I'm guessing it's the VRM (voltage regulator) parts. Luckily, I can't hear it if the case is closed. It was only noticeable to me while I was experimenting with stuff and had the case side-panel removed. My case has dampening mats on the side panels so maybe that helps to muffle that noise.

My graphics card also makes noise on certain load, but I feel that's pretty normal. Every graphics card I had did make noise that changed depending on load. Some of them were really noisy and some were quiet. My current one is quiet enough that it's not noticeable with a closed case and over the noise from the fans.

Yes, it was the power unit.
I replaced it with an old one and the noise disappeared. Unfortunately the old one is undersized, so I probably will buy a new one.

thanks for support.
