Virtual desktop on second monitor

disclaimer: I did not know where to publish the post, if it should go in another thread I would appreciate a moderator to relocate it

I have searched for information but have not found any answer, it is even possible that a virtual desktop runs on a secondary monitor ?, to work independently of the main monitor

Re: Virtual desktop on second monitor

Virtual Desktops are an "illusion" created by your WM by showing and hiding windows depending on which VD is active.
The relevant spec does not define the behavior you want, but iirc the Awesome WM has a "proprietary" implementation.

An alternative approach, independent of the WM, would be to run two X11 screens, https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Mu … te_screens
You'll have to run a WM on each screen and, most importantly, will not be able to move windows between screens. But since there're two WMs, the VD state of one has no impact on the other.
(If you just want to run a fullscreen video or kodi etc. on one of them, you likely won't need the second WM)
