ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock Not Connecting on Boot

Good morning,

since recently my Lenovo ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock is often not connecting on start up.
Pulling and plugging the Thunderbolt connector connects the dock but is quite annoying to me.

boltctl list

I already tried forget and enroll again.

The following is the X log but I can't spot any obvious errors.

Thanks for any ideas!

Re: ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock Not Connecting on Boot

Lenovo's docking stations connected via thunderbolt have been giving problems unless the proper firmware is installed (it did to me). Try installing Linux Verdor Firmware Service and see if there are updates for your thunderbolt 3.

pacman -S fwupd
fwupdmgr refresh --force
fwupdmgr get-updates
fwupdmgr update

Note: watch out also for BIOS updates. Those contain also important securities updates, but they tend to break your bootloader.

Re: ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock Not Connecting on Boot

Thanks for the hint! No Thunderbolt related update available. hmm The dock itself is on the current firmware (as I regularly have to find a Windows laptop as the dock is still not supported by LVFS).

I noticed that on not booting properly, the "secure" attribute lacks:

> boltctl list
 ● Lenovo ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock
[...]
   ├─ status: authorized
[...]
   │ └─ authflags: boot
[...]

Compared to proper boot:

> boltctl list
 ● Lenovo ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock
[...]
   ├─ status: authorized
[...]
   │ └─ authflags: secure | boot

Any ideas?
