[SOLVED]Unable to set resolution on Ultrawide (3440x1440)

This monitor and resolution works fine on a desktop running Ubuntu 20.04.

I am trying on my msi gs65 stealth 9SD laptop.  It has a GTX 1660 Ti Mobile video card in it and I am using the nvidia drivers (nvidia, nvidia-utils).
I am running bspwm/sxhkd and starting x from terminal login.
The proper resolution is listed when running xrandr -q
However, when enabling the second monitor with the following command:

xrandr --output eDP1 --off --output HDM-1-0 --primary --mode 3440x1440 --rate 85.00

The monitor has a picture but it has smeared background and windows but the mouse cursor is present and looks fine.

I have also tried with a display port connection with the same result. I can get a picture at a lower stretched resolution but I would like to use the full resolution of the monitor.

Here is an image of what the desktop looks like on the monitor. IMG-20200908-171112.jpg

I was able to solve this issue by running

 # nvidia-xconfig

I exited and ran startx and all was well
